Whole30 {60}: Unintended Side-Effects

ex periodWhen I started this blog a few years ago, I promised that it would talk about all the good and the bad and the uncomfortable. I am holding true to this promise this this post. This post is for those who are comfortable with women topics, like “that time of the month”. If you aren’t, don’t read on. This isn’t for the faint of heart–seriously!

Around day 18 I started to spot–a week before my period was due. I thought I could be pregnant, as implantation signs happen a week before your period is due. I am not pregnant, in case any family members are reading this {you know I wouldn’t announce it this way}. But I spotted the entire time until my period finally arrived. Now I am experiencing the crampiest {Advil is not working like it normally does}, heaviest time I have had in a long time. I am sorry if I am not being delicate enough, I don’t know how else to say this. I am not even at work today because the cramps have been going on since 2am last night until noon today. And my belly is still tender. I maybe got 3 hours of sleep last night.

I did some research. Apparently when you lose fat, estrogen is stored in said fat, and thus is released. Another thing to consider is that my insulin levels are changing because I am not overdosing on sugar. This means my monthly friend comes early because my hormones are shifting, changing. But as to why it’s so heavy? No idea. So thank you Whole30 for bringing me some fun this month. I am surprised this didn’t happen in January. Apparently my body is releasing more fat this time around. Gosh I love these side effects..oh wait…NO.

And since I am eternally careful, I have a gyno appointment this week, but the way my body is going, I might have to move the appointment to next week.

Thanks for reading all of this if you did.

  1. Oh! I never made the connection, but it happened to me as well, now that I look back! However, this month, I had no cramping and my period only lasted 5 days instead of the usual 7. Yay for regulating hormones the natural way! Hang in there, it gets better. In the meantime, a hot water bottle always helps and lying on my left side does too. Hope it helps you too

  2. Maybe trying Whole30 would bring my back! Haven’t seen Aunt Flow in more than 4 years :s Don’t be jealous, the novelty wears off. No one seems to be able to tell me why. I’m only 31, too young for that “change”.
