CrossFit Games Open: 14.1

cfgo14.1Tonight I attempt to do my first CrossFit Games Open workout. The workout was announced last night, so I have had a bit of time to prepare {ha ha} and come to terms with it.

Here is the workout:

30 double-unders

15 sntaches at 55 pounds

Last night, when the WOD was announced I was at first a little miffed. I have never landed a double under in my life. And so I was thrown off that my first games WOD I would be posting a zero. This morning though all negative emotion was gone. So what if I post a zero? I went into this with one mission: not to die. I am going to be exceptionally successful this week at that, as I will be practicing my double unders. I won’t be able to get to a single snatch because I will be lucky if I get a score at all in this WOD. Let’s also add insult to injury {pun intended!} that I have my stupid inflamed Achilles, so doing jump rope will hurt. So my ability to practice will be limited. Such is life.

So my approach is to go into it with a positive mind-frame. Instead of saying “I can’t do this”, I am going to try to do 1 single double under as though I am going to string together several of them. Maybe the reason why I have never landed one is because I was always trying to land just one and I was jumping and moving my wrists in a way that was preventing me from actually landing it? I don’t know. But I am going to try this new tactic. I could watch all the videos in the world. I have moved my wrists. I jump as high as I can. It just is what it is.

I am hopeful next week the first movement is something I can do so I can get a score on the board.
